Boardcon Embedded Design has recently successfully ported DeepSeek's large language models (1.5B and 7B parameters) onto its flagship single-board computer (SBC), the Idea3588, marking a milestone in edge AI computing.
In performance tests, the Idea3588 with 8GB RAM + 32GB eMMC configuration delivered 16.28 tokens/second on the 1.5B model. For the larger 7B model, it achieved 4.19 tokens/second by utilizing an 8GB swap partition to handle memory demands. When upgraded to 16GB RAM + 128GB eMMC, the system maintained near-identical speeds: 16.18 tokens/second (1.5B) and 4.16 tokens/second (7B), demonstrating stable scalability under constrained edge environments.
The results highlight Idea3588's capability to balance cost and performance for lightweight AI deployments. A Boardcon spokesperson noted: "This advancement opens doors for industrial automation, smart retail, and other latency-sensitive applications requiring localized LLM inference."
Powered by a Rockchip RK3588 SoC, the Idea3588 targets developers seeking ARM-based AI solutions without cloud dependency. Further optimizations for quantized models are underway.
